Succulents are mostly plants that have engorged, fattened and fleshy leaves. Think "jelly" like. However, not all are like this - for example, Snake plants or Sansevieria are do not have the appearance and texture of aloe or cactus plant.
Succulents are known for their amazing water retention properties -- they are able to survive for a while in arid climates or drier soil conditions.
How do you take care of Succulents?
Succulents love light, but some love indirect light, for e.g snake plants. They need about six to eight hours of sunlight a day.
Baby succulents or newly planted succulents might get burned in too much sunlight.
It's important to keep your succulents clean and free from dust - which hinders their growth. Wipe with a soft cloth lightly moistened with warm soapy water.
Over watering your succulents may kill them - so make sure that the soil dries up at least 2 inches deep before watering it. Make sure to not water the succulent, but the soil only.
Succulents need soil that drains well - not just regular potting soil. The roots are quite fragile, so they need a softer environment to grow and thrive in.
If you're going to use fertilizer, make sure you do it during the summer. Succulents don't really need fertilizer - but it won't hurt them as long as you're not going overboard.
What do Succulents Symbolize?
Think about "through thick and thin" -- Succulents are able to withstand very harsh dry conditions and sometimes they have rainy days. Notwithstanding, they are able to harbor water within their leaves and stems that will last them many days. Succulents are a symbol of endurance and perseverance.
Do Succulents need Sunlight?
They love sunshine but not direct naked sunlight, when the temperature is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It is better to keep them in indirect sunlight or a very lightly shaded area.
Be sure to keep them out of harsh, direct sunlight when they are newly transplanted.
